Binsted Nursery, part of Tristram Plants,

As the ‘Site Supervisor’ you will be responsible for our Binsted Lane site in Binsted Village.

You will support the site by giving supervision and oversight to the whole site on a day to day basis, ensuring not only the plants are efficiently produced but the staff are supported and trained to carry out tasks safely.

Supported by your line manager and guided by departmental managers operationaly, cultural, technical and dispatch. You will run the site, a propagation and stock plant section and grow finished product for sale.

Your primary objectives will be to:

  • Supervise all aspects at the site including people, crops, buildings, infrastructure and services.
  • Having oversight and supporting many areas including Propagation, Cultural, Potting, Crop Protection, Maintenance and Despatch with the help of their departmental supervisors and team leaders.
  • Take responsibility for all crops, the cleanliness, security and health and safety across the site.
  • To be a hands-on supervisor, sharing good work practice, training and developing people to carry out tasks on site. Discussing and monitoring work progress with teams throughout the day.
  • Ensure effective and efficient use of labour. Monitor and assess labour needs based upon planned/forecast workloads.
  • Actively communicate with line manager and support managers and other department supervisors to ensure priorities and targets are met.
  • Ensure all work labour recording and rate information is captured accurately.
  • Carry out pesticide/bio-control applications as directed. (subject to PA certification)
  • Undertake any other nursery work when necessary.

 

Desirable skills

  • Knowledge and ability to propagate and grow a wide range of plants.
  • PA1 and PA6 certification
  • Forklift, counterbalance
  • Computer literate including: Email, Excel, Word etc.

 

Salary dependent on previous experience.
