Walberton & Binsted host local work experience students
Walberton and Binsted Nurseries have been collaborating with St. Philip Howard School in Barnham since 2019, when students started attending the nurseries as part of their Enrichment programme. Now, for the first time, both nurseries have also hosted three work experience students.
Kenzel and Kiya, sisters in Year 10, spent their time at Walberton and Binsted Nursery respectively. During their week they helped out in the propagation department, sticking nepeta and lavender cuttings; trimming young citrus plants using snips; pest and disease monitoring; preparing plants for sale; and maintaining the staff garden. Kenzel said, “I am very thankful for all the support I received from Walberton staff. Everyone was so kind and caring. Enjoyed my very first work experience.”. Of her first work experience, Kiya said “My first work experience at Binsted was good. Enjoyed working outdoors and learning a lot about plants. I would like to thank everyone for their support.”
As well as Kiya, Binsted also hosted Luke, a Year 12 student who aspires one day to work in the business industry. Luke felt the experience we could offer would be highly valuable to kick start his career.”
